Guarding and proclaiming the unchanging truth in a changing world

Resources for Advent

In a year and season filled with despair due to the ongoing effects of the COVID crisis, it seems only right that beginning November 28, we who follow the sacred love story of God the Father throughout scripture, begin the Christian calendar year with the expectation, hope, longing, and fulfillment of Advent. Advent or "Adventus" in Latin simply means "coming". Beginning four Sundays before Christmas, the Season of Advent not only prepares for the celebration of Christ as a babe, but also for the Second Coming of Christ when he will return in glory and triumph.

Pray: The Suffering Church Network

In this Advent season of hope and expectation, pray for miracles for the Christians in Nigeria. Pray that the Lord will bare His holy arm on their behalf and bring them deliverance and justice, and show His glory throughout the nation.

  • Turkey: Remember and thank God for the miraculous deliverance of Pastor Andrew Brunson from a Turkish prison cell for preaching the Gospel. But this claim is also the testimony of the lives of the 2007 martyrdom of three Christians in Turkey: Necati, Ugur, and Tilmann, tortured and murdered for proclaiming Christ. Thank God that He has the last word, that no power of hell could pluck those precious brothers from His hand, and they are with Him in Eternity. Please continue to pray for the Body of Christ in Turkey. President Erdogan believes that he will restore the Caliphate and destroy the Church, not just in Turkey but throughout the region. But Jesus has promised us that He will build His Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Fear not, Jesus commands my destiny, is true, not just of you and me and our persecuted brothers and sisters. It is true of the persecutors as well!
  • Nepal: The Anglican Church in Nepal is planting churches and growing despite poverty and a law that forbids Christians to evangelize or expand the church. Thank God for the growth and pray the churches continue as a harbour of compassion.
  • Pakistan: Christians live in fear of being falsely accused of blasphemy and convicted on contrived evidence. We are praying for the reform of the blasphemy laws. Give thanks for the recent release of Sawan after his conviction and death sentence were overturned in the Lahore High Court.
