Primates announce Bishops’ 2020 conference
The Gafcon Primates, Branch Chairmen, Guarantors and Advisors met in Sydney from 29th April to 2nd May. On the first evening Archbishop Foley Beach (ACNA) was prayed over and appointed Chairman. Archbishop Laurent Mbanda (Rwanda) was appointed as Vice Chairman and Archbishop Ole Sapit (Kenya) was voted onto the Primates’ Council. Archbishop Nicholas Okoh and Archbishop Stanley Ntagali stepped down as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. We praise God for their godly leadership.
The Primates discussed the growth of the 9 Networks since their launch in Jerusalem in 2018 and they approved, the formation of a new network for the Suffering Church as requested by those who attended the G19 conference in Dubai. They discussed the recent conferences in Jerusalem and Dubai, the growth of the Branches, and gave recognition to a new orthodox diocese in New Zealand. They also discussed the role of women in the episcopate and announced a Gafcon Bishops’ meeting in June 2020 ahead of the Lambeth conference, which will be particularly tailored to those bishops who have declined to go to Lambeth, but all bishops who can sign the Jerusalem Declaration are invited.
