Online Lecturer Training for Chile
From 4-8 January 2021, the Theological Education Network (TEN) ran the first part of an intensive online teacher training course for lecturers from the Centro de Estudios Pastorales (CEP) in Santiago, Chile. The course was led by Richard and Caroline Seed, who are based at George Whitefield College in South Africa. In all, there were 21 full-time participants and 6 people auditing the course on an informal basis. The participants were drawn from Chile, Peru, Brazil and Argentina, and included several bishops.
The textbook had been translated into Spanish during 2020 and formed the basis of the reading materials. Lectures were given by Zoom with simultaneous translation. They were followed by group work sessions in Zoom rooms, led by five bilingual CEP faculty members.
At the end of the week, participants committed to experimenting with active teaching methods during the next semester and recording the results in an online portfolio. They will also produce a demonstration video of their teaching practice for peer evaluation. A follow up online intensive is scheduled in six months.
We give thanks to the Lord for the opportunity to fellowship together in thinking about theological education in Latin America.
