Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

What a privilege it is to be heralds of the Christmas Gospel! Though there is much to lament in our world — conflict, corruption, and confusion, both outside and inside the Church — there is so much more to rejoice over. For it was into a similarly dark and desperate world that the angels brought their message on that first Christmas morning, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 1:10-11, ESV).

In the face of the Church of England’s General Synod decision to reject the authority of Scripture in matters of marriage and human sexuality, along with decades of similar decisions by revisionist Provinces, it is tempting to say, “Look at what the world is coming to!” And yet, the Good News of Christmas banishes our fears and demands that we say, instead, “Look at Who has come into the world!” It is with this Gospel confidence that Gafcon goes forward into an exciting new year ahead.

Thank you for your support of this vital Global movement through your prayers and financial gifts. I am personally thankful for the support shown to me in my new role by our Gafcon Primates Council, our Chairman, Archbishop Mbanda, our outgoing General Secretary, Archbishop Kwashi, and so many of our leaders throughout the Gafcon community.

I look forward to this upcoming year as we work to re-energize our networks and renew our commitment to communicating stories from around the world. This year, we will hold two Bishops Training Institutes under the faithful leadership of Bishop Henry Luke Orombi: BTI-7 in February in Kigali and BTI-8 in October. Please join me in upholding these Bishops and their wives in prayer as they “guard the good deposit” in our generation (2 Timothy 1:14), and please consider financially supporting the vital work of BTI.

The mission opportunities before us are immense, the fields are white for the harvest, and what is at stake is nothing less than the salvation of a lost world. Such work requires sacrificial and generous giving from us all. As you consider how much the Lord has blessed you through Gafcon, here is my request: sit down after reading this letter and ask the Lord, “Of all that you have placed into my hands, what are you calling me to give back to you for the work of Gafcon?”

As the Lord leads, I know you will have the faith, courage, and joy to give generously.

I am praying that you, and the communities you serve, encounter the Christmas Gospel afresh this year. May his mercy and grace lead us into an exciting year of mission in 2024.

In Christ, your servant,

Paul+
