Guarding and proclaiming the unchanging truth in a changing world

Gafcon Lent Prayer Diary

Ash Wednesday (6th March) to Easter Sunday (21st April) 2019

Sunday 24th March 2019
Prayer

Almighty God,
whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain,
and entered not into glory before he was crucified:
Mercifully grant that we,
walking in the way of the cross,
may find it none other than the way of life and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Saturday 23rd March 2019

Friday 22nd March 2019
The Anglican Church in North America (ACNA)

"Is this not the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free…to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn"

Isaiah 58:6-8

ACNA are running a project called The Gift of Lent (www.GiftOfLent.org). This particularly highlights the work of Matthew 25 Ministries and The Anglican Relief and Development Fund. Pray that this project will be a very helpful resource in Lent and also that it may be very effective in encouraging generosity for excellent projects in line with the message from Isaiah above.

Thursday 21st March 2019
The Anglican Church of Chile

To have one united Church. As the word says in Ephesians:

‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.’

Ephesians 4:2-6

Please also pray for Bishop Bill Love (TEC diocese of Albany) as he continues to remain faithful to the Scriptures and the Bible's definition of marriage. For discernment, strength and encouragement.

Wednesday 20th March 2019
Esther John

The Esther Memorial Chapel at Lahore College of Theology is a memorial to Esther John who is one of the modern martyrs depicted at Westminster Abbey. Esther committed her life to Christ and was devoted to Him, using her little hand help dholak (drum). Her life was tragically cut short by those who were offended by her choice of faith and her commitment to sharing Christ in rural Pakistan. Pray for the ministry of prayer and intercession that will go out from this Chapel throughout lent and in the years to come.

Tuesday 19th March 2019
The Gafcon Theological Education Network

Archbishop Peter Jensen (Australia) is leader of the Theological Education network. The overall aim is to ensure that every Gafcon bishop is able to access sound theological education for ordinands and others. Pray for Archbishop Peter as he starts developing relationships with and between theological educators.

Monday 18th March 2019
New Zealand

Pray for faithfulness and unity as local Gafcon leaders put together the constitution for a new Anglican expression in New Zealand. They are seeking to have it ready before the Gafcon Primates meeting at the end of April.

Sunday 17th March 2019
Prayer

Almighty God,
you show to those who are in error the light of your truth
that they may return to the way of righteousness:
grant to all those who are admitted
into the fellowship of Christ's religion,
that they may reject those things that are contrary to their profession,
and follow all such things as are agreeable
to the same; through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Saturday 16th March 2019
