In this article, written in 2007 before the first GAFCON gathering and in during the crisis in the lead-up to Lambeth 2008, Henry Orombi, Archbishop of Uganda from 2004 to 2012, looks at the church in Uganda, with its history of martyrdom and revival, and draws lessons for the Anglican Communion. He argues that the Reformation and evangelical principles which shaped the Church of Uganda and, before that, the Church of England must be reflected in the global Anglican Communion and the way its instruments function.
