Over 1,300 delegates from 38 nations gathered in Nairobi in October 2013 for GAFCON 2. In the conference’s plenary talk , Rev Dr Michael Ovey, the Principal of Oak Hill Theological College in London, asks whether Global Anglicans will chose to the Grace of God or the world of the West. He identifies this world as one in which grace is cheapened and distorted by the church and denied by the prevailing culture. He traces this back to the Enlightenment which has left many in the West with a deep sense of individualism and entitlement. The answer to this cheap grace is to preach costly grace – grace which requires repentance and obedience, grace which Christ himself demonstrated supremely.
