In this introductory session about church-planting, Rev Tim Davies explains the Biblical mandate to plant new churches and the need for them to be relevant to the culture they are planted into. Drawing on is experience of planting in Sheffield, UK, he explains how his church family have been ‘doing things differently’ to adapt to the surrounding culture without compromising Biblical principles. With the help of other church planters from across the UK, he identifies some common areas of difficulty faced when planting a church: secularism and post-modernism; materialism, consumerism and hedonism; and the Christian heritage obscuring the need for the gospel.
